5 Questions with Alexander Piuitti, Founder and CEO, Game Genetics
1. Tell us about your background. How did you get started with app development Alexander?
First of all, thanks for having me here. It is my pleasure. So, quick intro: my name is Alexander Piutti, Founder & CEO of GameGenetics, a leading specialist in user acquisition for free-to-play mobile and online games across the globe. For Lenovo we developed the exclusive ‘FreeOnlineGames’ Windows 8 app catalogue that will be pre-loaded on over 8 million PCs and laptops manufactured during 2014 and 2015. With this app, Lenovo customers have instant access to the world’s best free2play online gaming. Content will be regularly updated by the GameGenetics team with the latest and best games from the world’s top developers. For us it was a true milestone in development while Lenovo can now monetize this global and premium gaming inventory exclusively.
Personally, I am a passionate entrepreneur. I have been around for more than 15 years in management in the digital world, focusing on the development and launch of online and mobile products. Before founding my current company, GameGenetics, I was engaged in different leading internet companies of the GSA region and North America, for example Yahoo! As Head of Search Europe, London, and – as one of first employees in Europe – after we as Overture (today Yahoo Search Marketing) got bought by Yahoo for $1.6 Bn.
2. What are your proudest moments?
I am happy when a plan does actually materialize and all efforts start to pay off for the team – for example the launch of a great product, going live with an awesome partner, intensifying an existing partner relationship, helping our partners to deliver more value to their users or partners … would be things I am proud of. A good example is to deliver an exclusive app to an important partner like Lenovo and see how it enables millions of Lenovo customers to access the best games in the world … this is something I like best.
On the personal side, I am currently trying to improve my drone flying skills. Proud to say that I am not crashing into trees anymore that frequently!
3. What are your goals in the next 5 years?
Of course, we would like to grow GameGenetics as a company. As I see it, the market is full of opportunities. We want to strengthen our position as the thought leader in user acquisition and provide game changing solutions to a rapidly evolving market. There is a need for smart ad tech in context of game distribution. That’s a massive opportunity for us. I believe this window of opportunity will close at some point. In 5 years from now, we will see Real Time Advertising (RTA) being established, tailored media buying and data intelligence at new standards, new technologies around targeting and programmatic buying established, etc. All options to drive our company and ways to, to deliver value to our partners and help move the needle in the market.
Given our current marketing activities, we currently deliver 100+ billion game ad views mobile & online every month, which is an impressive number even for us. Assuming ongoing automation, this number might ramp to 500 billion ads delivered by GameGenetics per month at some point – who knows? Anyways, numbers only don’t tell the truth. In 5 years we want to be the one delivering the best possible user acquisition service to our partners - period.
4. What has been the best thing about working with Lenovo, for you?
The development of the ‘Free Online Games’ Windows 8 app was our first chance to work with Lenovo about two years ago. We are proud to have gotten great feedback for this app. Hence, we are constantly improving the product while expanding into more regions for Lenovo. We are committed to the Lenovo relationship as we really enjoy working with Lenovo providing the best gaming products to the Lenovo users worldwide.
