WRITEit Releases Updates With Expanded Device And Language Support

In April, we launched WRITEit, the handwriting recognition technology using AnyPen, a digitizer pen, or an active pen. WRITEit is a natural, accurate handwriting experience for pen-enabled PCs and tablets, with no intrusive keyboard overlay.

Since its release, WRITEit has over 13,000 downloads, and 75 apps are WRITEit-enabled. WRITEit 1.2 is an update on the app with improvements and compatibility with more Lenovo PCs and tablets.

A better way to write

We listened to your feedback, and WRITEit now works on ThinkPad Tablet 10 models and Yoga Tablet 2 with AnyPen (8" Windows OS version), as well as ThinkPad Yoga and Helix. Note that your PC or tablet is not compatible with WRITEit if an error message appears on install.

WRITEit also has better performance and app support and is available in eight languages: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Japanese.

You can download and install WRITEit 1.2 now and view the new interactive tutorial.

Write anywhere

WRITEit operates in text fields that accept typed input, even in an app without native pen support. The app runs in the system tray and acts as an overlay over input boxes. It converts your handwriting to text with speed and accuracy, catching typos and suggesting alternatives to unrecognized words. Because you write directly on screen, you don’t have to pull up a screen keyboard or text box.

Operating systems: WRITEit works on systems running Windows 8 and above, including Windows 10.

Where to use: You can write in nearly any field except password fields (we restrict these areas for security and usability). A green box illuminates around any text field that is ready for writing. You can write wherever you like, as long as you begin input in the text box.

Works in almost any Windows app: We tested WRITEit in key Windows apps you may use every day. The technology automatically disables inside apps that already have rich pen support, including Evernote, One Note, PowerPoint, Excel, Lync, Nitro PDF Creator, and Lotus Notes.

Real-time text correction: The optical character recognition (OCR) bubble is the main UI for WRITEit. It appears during writing and allows users to edit or replace text, add words to the WRITEit dictionary, and insert ink as an image.

Automatic updates: WRITEit automatically checks for updates and prompts you to install. The new version will upgrade while keeping your user settings.

Give feedback: Report issues and questions, or post ideas for new features inside the app. Right-click the WRITEit icon in the system tray to select the feedback option. You can also post comments in the WRITEit user forum. We are listening!

Get WRITEit Certified

Why certify your app as WRITEit-enabled? By offering enhanced pen support, you offer users another way to interact with your app. This useful feature also can increase your app's market value.

Learn more about the technology behind WRITEit and get Windows 8 code samples (modern and desktop). Once you have implemented WRITEit and completed testing, you can request for certification. We spotlight approved apps on content and discovery platforms such as the WRITEit Lenovo Picks page and Lenovo Companion.
